[GOOD MORNING, OKITA SOUJI. surely this name is exactly what you want to see at such an ungodly hour!
but, see, it doesn't feel ungodly to Kaoru. he isn't aware of the time - hasn't been since the first night of the week when he noticed Chizuru was gone and went to sit in a huff by her grave to wait for her to revive again (again! what a troublesome girl). ...and then it was dawn, and night again, and the light rain stopped and started and got so heavy that the dirt by the graveside turned to mud and still no Chizuru. no contact information, a closed grave; it took three days, but the reality of the situation does eventually sink in, and... what? then what?
another day passes and he's still wearing the same dress he had left in when he picks up his pocket watch, hem caked in dirt that flakes off on his sheets, fabric strangely stiff in the way that clothing gets after the rainwater on it dries. the gaping mouth of loss is inching a little too close. he's starting to panic, to feel claustrophobic in his own skin, so what can he do?
...what he's always done, of course. he can't drag himself away from the pit of his own misery, but he can attempt to bring people down with him.]

[in rapid succession, after being seized by the sudden and completely nonsensical fear that Okita has managed to slip through the cracks along with Chizuru:]
[ the amount of texts he gets over the period of time is infuriating, sure, but as time passes, the more nonsensical they are. it makes him wonder if something happened. something must have, to have kaoru react this way. ]
[look at that, as soon as he actually gets a text back, he completely loses any desire to actually talk to Okita...! how very strange. it's enough, anyway, to have the confirmation that he's still in Zelien. Chizuru had always been like that - always slipping from his grasp and going to far-away places that he couldn't follow. it's a little relieving to know that Okita still doesn't fall under that category.
either way, a couple hours later he dredges up the energy to flip open his pocket watch again and fire back a return text.]
You should hurry up and die
[because now that he knows Okita's alive and well, he wants him gone...!]
[apparently he can't decide whether he wants to talk to Okita or not, today... the next few texts will be boomeranged back within a few minutes, regardless of what time they're sent.]
[he spends a few seconds staring at that message, unable to decide if it's a joke to get under his skin or if Okita is actually that fantastically callous in regard to Chizuru.]
Cruel of you to ask that
[because it wasn't cruel of him to bring it up or anything]

You don't understand anything. I only want her to know the reality of the world she lives in.
